Lateral thinking live imaging

Post by ronje »

Here's some info on live imaging using a bit of lateral thinking.

To date, most think of live imaging in terms of lure fishing. To be frank, tunnel vision (including me).

You should recall that I outlined an issue of how to see our lures better.

Not by increasing the length but by increasing the lure body thickness on retrieve to even adding a spinner blade at nose so that the lure will more efficiently reflect sonar returns. Then we can more easily see both lure and fish simultaneously.

The guy in this video has taken it one step further by simply using large, light spoons for jigging.

Next video shows how live imaging can be utilised for live bait castnetting.

Couple of other images in that video shows just how innovative a bit of lateral thinking can lead to alternative uses. And innovative thinking is what fishos are good at.

Note that these videos are a couple of years old so may not be 2nd generation live on some models.

The images here are "forward" scanning.

I can see immense potential in landscape or perspective mode for shallow water (10 ft or so). Bait has less time to swim out from under.

Note also that spoon jigging isn't the only potential use.

For cast-and-retrieve situations, there's no longer need for large cumbersome and expensive soft plastic swimbaits.

Simple metal blades also work well as sounder signal reflectors (being made completely of metal) 'cos they also vibrate like hell when retrieved (excellent for dirty water where fish vision is non-existent).

See what u guys think of the different uses.
