Nhulunbuy / Gove move :)

Tell us a camping story. Let us guess? You left the cooking oil and bog roll at home ...

Boat + lots of tackle, pelagic, reef jigging. We went through truckloads of zman tails + griplock jigs in the 1/4 & 1/2 oz sizes. Mackrel lures esp halco red/whits in 3m+ and 5m+ are endangered. All the boat/ trailer service items you can think of!

As well as the usual estuary and offshore boat stuff, you can fish LB off the rocks for macks and trevally so a decent casting rod wouldn't go astray.

One of the essentials is to have a spare room available for when you invite me over fishing :D

Generator not required the township is run off the plants power mate.

Pure Gold 7m plus laser pros are available at the servo. They used to outfish everything else. Skipping gars in fluro pink skirts are the other winning tactic for Bluewater. In the estuary. Throw in a cast net and few bulk packs of 7/0 gamakatsus or mustad big reds and a few bean stinkers then run good fresh livies unweighted because their barra are pretty fussy over there but instead of them plenty of GTs , 70 -90cm queenies, good jacks and decent Trout instead which can be even caught LB on 12cm xraps in the same sorts of coastal spots. Aswell as blue swimmer crabs on the beaches ...if keen on barra you'll be disappointed tho. It has a few but the access is a bit hard to get on better areas instead of the town permit zones.

Modified full off road trailers, good recovery gear, good suspension on a reliable vehicle with new mud tyres recommended too mate (20 odd km is the longest bit of bitumen in the area) you'll also find the TO.s are very strict on unregistered bikes or quads on a lot of places out there too. On cape Arnhem 4WD tracks even the registered 2 wheeler bikes aren't allowed on it. Most spots the water is super clear and smaller tides there too so more natural colours of clear and silver's were better on the estuary laps and livies were far more consistent on the few tiny barra of Melville bay and it's small creeks that they call "rivers"

Get onto a good online shopping system with a few other mates once over there for food as the veggies and meat is overpriced and not the freshest some days. Take anything you'll need for life in the next 3 months in advance as most times "it'll be on the next barge" they do have a few shops there and a hardware but it's quite limited out that way.... unless you need a few parts off a Landcruiser

A good Speargun is definitely the tool to have in the boat out there if keen on a feed every time on bigger and better quality fillets IMO

There are Barra to be caught in the harbour mate. Work the flats and drains as you would the harbour in Darwin/Bynoe. They are bit more difficult though.

If you get out to Arnhem bay/ Blue mud bay/ Buckingham bay that's where the bigger Barra are. Can be a bit a bit of mission but believe they have upgraded made it easier to launch at the Cato river in Arnhem bay or you can do the the 2 to 3 hour cruise around by boat. Only thing is this time of year the wind is there everyday now until build up. the South easterlies blow all dry season just about.

Watch the Fishing the wild series on youtube to get an idea of the fishing there.

Build up was better in my experience for all types of fishing. Not much of a run in the harbour area in gove pretty similar to Darwin harbour. (none) you get a bit in Arnhem bay and blue mud. but not like this side of the territory.
The tidal movements are a lot smaller also.

Will 2nd TSB for the opinion of NO run off  .... and the brag mat they supply in the pack for Melville bay barra comp is 75cm to give you an idea of a Gove harbour horse

Rapid creek is about what you're looking at for the "rivers" they have over there in that harbour but decent jacks are more common over there than they are up here if using barra tactics. NT gov. Website for tides have the tide charts online for Melville bay to download them.

Take a surfboard you'll get more use out of it than the boat for the next 6 months :surf:

Pro netters still hammer the other bays out there mentioned above too. :bonk: mate spent a few days there last year after towing his 5m rig to Cato and taking his dad out who had flown in from Brisbane. This is a special permit area down a cr.p 4WD track which cost another 200 bucks on top of having a town permit. With it having to be booked for months in advance too..... and after launching off the mudslide they call a boat ramp ran across the other side of Arnhem bay for a few days of disappointment landing only 51 to 53cm rats in that whole area (which fit through 6 inch mesh). Pretty sad for buildup conditions in a remote area that is supposed to be the Barra hotspot  .... the only legal ones they got were way back up the river.
