It rained steadily overnight across much of the state, it smelled like old smoky steam this morning where I am.
Assuming there has been enough rain, the Huon Valley has dodged a bullet as the fire was up against almost every town on the west side when the wind slowed, it only took a major westerly system and it would have been grim.
Mammoth effort by firefighters, chopper and plane pilots and the local council, which organised the evac centre.
Half a dozen or so homes destroyed, very sad, but no lives lost.
Internet was hugely helpful, amount of fast info out there helps people make decisions.
I am catching up on work now, will have those prizes out shortly
