It rained steadily overnight across much of the state, it smelled like old smoky steam this morning where I am.

Assuming there has been enough rain, the Huon Valley has dodged a bullet as the fire was up against almost every town on the west side when the wind slowed, it only took a major westerly system and it would have been grim.

Mammoth effort by firefighters, chopper and plane pilots and the local council, which organised the evac centre.

Half a dozen or so homes destroyed, very sad, but no lives lost.

Internet was hugely helpful, amount of fast info out there helps people make decisions.

I am catching up on work now, will have those prizes out shortly
