Closures hit commercial fishos

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

Closures hit commercial fishos

Fortunately, most get payouts when they become obsolete through closures.

Most industries, once you become obsolete, that's it, no payout, nothing.

That said, new closed zones must be accompanied by licence buybacks, or netters just get pushed into smaller areas, and that's no good for the pros or the recreational fishermen who must fish the remaining open areas.

Funny how certain industries get payouts, but not others ... why is that? Is it something that only happens when a govt decision puts you out of work? Why aren't private companies paying compo to the losers when they make similar decisions?

I am not suggesting pros shouldn't get payouts.

Everyone should get payouts!
