Looks like it was a surprise to some ... http://www.news.com.au/national/norther ... eea647a5f8
I see that a Talc Head site is no longer marked on the current map. There have been changes between the draft release and the final one. This is discussed on the NCL page.

Middle Reef ... no anchoring allowed over Middle Reef at all any more. No fishing/access allowed on a strip from the middle of the reef in a south-westerly direction.

Perhaps some of these areas will eventually be sold or leased back to the government, or permit systems may apply.

Just go fishing. Stuff ‘em. Who’s going to catch you anyway. Heaps of people, including guides, still fish upstream Finniss. Apparently.........

Matt as you mentioned earlier some of these areas will be leased back by the Govt so the native title and Sacred Sites isn't what it is all about it is the dollars they are chasing . The indigenous people wonder why they are not treated equal , its because they pull this type of cr.p and p..s everyone off . I understand certain parts of land have cultural significance to them but put restrictions on entering the exact site not the whole bl..dy area . What I don't understand if how someone can claim to own tidal waters

Re: Kenbi land claim - latest info
So will we be seeing NT fishermen travelling to Qld or WA to go barra fishing?
Visitors from the south will have no trouble gaining access to prime fishing waters via guides who are quite happy to pay the access fees as part of the package.
On a more serious note, now ya'll know why we pulled out of going to the Roper every year. Now we go to Cullen Point via Weipa, Stanage Bay, Shoalwater Bay and Fitzroy.

Re: Kenbi land claim - latest info
Something else to think about with this BS.
As mentioned in this post previously I also have never ever seen any indigenous people living or camped out in the Islands or tidal zones. Maybe they did back 100's of years ago when they were traditional people but times have definitely changed.
Something else to think about these areas have never been closed before in last 100 years and there has been no or minimal damage by fishermen so there has to be only one reason to want to claim the areas and its all about $$$$$$$$$$$ obviously.
Kiss the NT life style good bye

Will there be compensation for those that have investments or invested businesses within these ares.
There was a one off payment per person to all invested shareholders of properties on Centre Island (Township of Pellew) before the Government gave the last Federally owned island in the Gulf of Carpentaria back.
Owners of shacks were at least, granted a 25 year lease back as added compensation before they can never go back.
Could be worth a visit to a lawyer from the tour guides.

I heard today on the radio that a deal has already been struck between the tour boat that takes tourists to look at the turtle hatchlings on Bare Sand Island and the (NLC) Elders to allow access.................who would have thought........

There is still access for everyone, so not sure why they would have had to compensate.
