Daly Gurus I need your help?

Post by Andy Grey »

So when would you fish in June?...given that the school hols start around the 22nd so probably want to be gone by then. Are bigger tides better or the Neaps? Looking at a week to 10 days minimum.

Hi Andy,
I am no expert, but I do fish the Daly Regularly.
My advice, forget about the Tides, because you will be there for both Spring Tides, and Neap Tides.

I used to come up here from Adelaide, for 10 Days straight fishing 1 or 2 Times a year.(usually during a Full Moon). I found, the first 3 Days were slow, then after a couple of days, you had an Idea, of where fish were being caught, and what part of the Tide, you were catching them, or watching others catch them. From there it got easier.

Watch what The Tourists are doing in their small boats, they get to know what is happening, and when and where, because a lot of them, are up here Fishing for 3 - 4 Months Straight. Sometimes, you will see 3 or 4 Boats leave mid afternoon, to fish a 2 hour Window.
Sick of coming home Fishless

mmmm good food for thought that Jpb thanks for the reply....having fished the Daly a bit but not in the past 10 years I have a fair idea on areas to target however not knowing/remembering the tides i fished it on caused me to ask. Normally I guess the best policy is on the bigger tides to troll the middle of the river on the incoming until the top, and for the neaps then just cast cast cast or slow troll the rockbars etc. You're right though the best way to find the fish is to watch and learn from others. Might take a carton and a couple bottles of red to share with the long termer campers on the first night or two to get the good goss on where and when rather than worry about the tides so much. :)
