shark fishing

Post by esox »

Hi all !
Since a long time, I went to mandorah jetty for shark fishing.
But I have a problem, I always catch nurse shark, I would like catch other species like bullshark, hammerhead or tiger... Nurse shark is not a good fighter... Even if it's very tuff.

Maybe can you advice me about the size of bait, fishing technics... Or maybe other spot ?

This is my biggest nurse shark, 2m42

For shrk fishing, I use fish frame on the bottom. My baits are llittle queenie to te big queenie of the meter...

Cheers !

You'd be better off suspending your bait under a balloon, otherwise all you will ever catch is lemon sharks.

Yes Dannett, I release all the sharks. Maybe if a day, I damaget to much, I will keep it. But for the moment no worries.

Sometimes, I hooked on the bottom other fish that a nurse shark. The fish done big rush, very fast and long. I always lost it. And I'm surprise if a sting ray eat a fish frame of 1.10 meters queenie ! And thr fish never taked the bottom...

I don't know much about shark fishing but maybe try using smaller bait. Also experiment around a bit and try different places and and different baits and find out what works best. Also once you've done that post back here on how it went so others know what to do [emoji4]

I really like fishing at Mandorah, all times I meet very good fishermen. There is a very good fishing atmoshpere.
For one time I have put my bait in the middle water... But again and again nurse shark ... I used any smaller bait, but the result is the same I loost lots of sharks. However I wait for hooked the shark.

I can do it !
affairs to follow ...

That's a cracker!

Might be time for a new comp, the Nurse Shark Classic. Barramundi have hogged the spotlight for too long.

Only float your bait 1m below the surface. Mandora isn't very deep around it on lower tides so the nurses get to any bottom baits too quickly. Tigers and hammers will feed up higher in the water column. They don't pick a lot off the bottom.

And this is my catch of friday:

A snaggedtooth shark of 1m30. It's very good fighter. It was well hooked on the mouth corner. He can be release in perfect conditions.

No need for fancy baits. I kid you not I caught this wee fella on an 25g slice with an 8kg rod with 20lb braid and 40lb leader.
