Trichodesmium bloom
There is a big trichodesmium bloom washed into the harbour at the moment, apparently causing a real pong at Nightcliff.
Twaz a good article about the local variety in NTMAG.

ohh Wow! So the Sea Sawdust bloom apart from the smell, does the fish follow it through and put them on the bite? Or maybe the opposite effect??

Re: Trichodesmium bloom
It is a type of cyanobacteria, sometimes called blue green algae, although it is not really algae.
Proper name is trichodesmium, if it is the usual suspect off Darwin.

Fisherman-Rob - it can affect the fish in some situations, also, some people on here reckon the fishing is poorer when there are rafts of the stuff about

Re: Trichodesmium bloom
it was everywhere on Sunday, from Lee Point to East Point it was pretty thick in patches.
With big long sections covering the water pretty good with the incoming tide.
There were Milkfish that seemed to be feeding on it just inside East point

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!

I reckon its a sure fire way to find milkfish. There was plenty out at the Vernons on Sunday and a few schools of milkfish feeding away on them. Unfortunately I couldn't convert one to a piece of bread on a hook.Agent86 wrote:it was everywhere on Sunday, from Lee Point to East Point it was pretty thick in patches.
