Boat trailer rego?

Post by volkoff »

Does anyone know how much it cost to transfer a boat trailer from Victoria rego to NT?
Also does the trailer need to go over pits etc?
Cheers

It will have to be inspected by MVR at a cost of about $40.???..
And the transfer fee depends on the trailers weights etc...

Check out their website dude, it'll all be on there....

Transfer of rego and inspection a about $70. If the trailer is currently registered interstate, you should be able to get back a percentage of the remaining rego back from the MVR (interstate). I just had mine done a few months back.

Old mate at the MVR clued me up years ago

Take the trailer in without the boat ( a full fuel tank could mean brakes needed)

Drop boat at Dinah boat ramp and whip up to MVR

All the weights etc should be on the vic rego. Just have to pay stamp duty on value (which is usually a lot less than you paid for it)

Dont think the evaluation thing applies with boat trailers under 750kg Nomad. Either way it shouldnt be more than $120.00 or there abouts all up. My trailer cost $85 to get registered.

As suggested above, where possible take the trailer in with no boat on it through the pits.

As I mentioned previously, I recently transferred mine over from SA rego after purchasing a boat from interstate. I went into the MVR and they said just to bring boat, trailer and all and there was no issue. I think having to drop your boat off in the water (or other) is a bit over the top. I spoke tot the guy at the MVR inspections and he was really reasonable and gave great advice. It is common and a majority of people bring in their trailers with the boat in tow. They are switched on enough to make allowances for the weight of the boat, fuel and any internal gear that you may have when they do their inspection. You'll be right. :D

Think he owns a Fibre-Glass

Know a mate who took a trailer with packed boat to go fishing for a few days and was 5kg over 750kg and had to get brakes.
Would not let him throw a bag of ice out as said that is the traveling weight

I Take car / trailer to mechanic and he fax,s the report to the MVR and i pay online.

Now that I think of it I took my boat to Arhnem motors on Pruen road in Berrimah last time. He was a good bloke to deal with and did the same as above with the fax. Not sure if mechanics can do interstate change overs though but it may be worth a ring and book if possible. It saves waiting at the MVR for 2 hours to get a check.
