King Ash Bay

Post by Swoffa »

Took my son down to King Ash Bay for the school holidays at the start of April. We were mainly fly fishing for barra but when the wind came up we had a go trolling the McArthur towards the mouth of the river.

The flats around the islands and at the mouth of the McArthur were absolutely alive with barramundi with a lot of good sized fish. The fish were cruising the banks in less than a foot of water and nearly every fish that we caught was sight cast to. At times we were following schools of barramundi cruising the shallows occasionally stopping under the overhanging trees. The plethora of queenies gave us the shites as they would get to the the fly before the barra would.

In the six days that we were fishing, we caught upwards of 75 barra, hundreds of queenfish, goldies, flathead on both fly and lure.

Check out the you tube video - Part one is trolling the mouth of the McArthur. Part two is fly fishing the flats and I will put it up when I have finished building it....
