Adventure at Lorna
Hi all, long time user of the forum and first time poster. Decided to head out to Lorna on Saturday to give the motor a bit of a test run after a service. Now the trouble started as soon as I left my street, the boat winch unhooked itself (just had this replaced when getting the service) and boat decided to roll back, luckily the safety chain was attached to the boat which stopped it from falling off the trailer and thanks to my deckies keen eye he picked up on it . The shackle holding the boat got damaged pretty bad so i quickly replaced that with a spare shackle from in the boat. Got to the boat ramp at 6:30am launched the boat cranked the motor chucked her into gear then stall ok maybe motor was a bit cold try again stall ???? after 20 mins of fiddling around the motor would rev upto 2000 and that's it. Decided to pull back out and wait for in and outboard to open so they can look at it. bummed around till 8:30 until they opened they looked at the motor and it turns out the magnetic piece that attaches to the flywheel had seized apparently as you give the motor acceleration that's meant to move to increase spark which wasn't happening. Ol mate at the shop lubed it up and she started working (bit of advice to all you fishos spray under the fly wheel with carby cleaner after each trip as salt builds up under there and carby cleaner breaks it down the best) anyways I woulda thought that would have been picked up during service but either way we were on our way finally.
Launched around 9:20 and water was smooth as so we headed straight to Lorna. Was pretty big tides this weekend so the run was pretty strong, we loaded up the lines with bigger sinkers and started fishing. Got a few snapper on board which was a good start but then the sharks moved in in plague numbers. kept fishing the same spot as we were starting to get some better bites (felt like jewies). After a few mins up came a baby jewie, quickly released him and hoped the bigger ones were around. after 5mins bang one of the girls were on to a decent fish, she fought it well and had the fish onboard within 5mins her first jewie after 9 years!! Not long after then I was on to a jewie as well We were pretty happy at this stage after not having such a great start in the morning. Next it was the deckies turn to land a jewie which he hooked up not long after the first two he was stoked as it was his first decent sized jewie before this his biggest was 30cm haha Only one that hadn't got a jewie at this stage was my missus and she was giving it her all but kept hooking the sharks the spot started to slow down so decided to lift anchor and move to another spot in hopes to find some goldies. couldn't find the ground fish I was after although I did get my first Cobia and we also landed a tricky and a bluebone.
Decided to lift anchor and make a move closer to the islands where we found a few more jewies. my missus finally landed hers and we boated another 2 so decided to call it quits and head in towards Charles point patches in hopes to find some gold (they were playing hard to get this trip) Arrived back around Charles Point in no time at all as the water was like glass the entire day. Tried one of my going home spots where we found some nice snapper (finally) kept 5 of the best ones and called it a day.
was great to get out on the water with the weather being nice for once.

Re: Adventure at Lorna
Nice selection of Jewies & bonus conditions to boot to recover the ordinary start to the trip.
With the carby cleaner, is there still a need to fresh water blast first??
Yeah I've always sprayed CRC/Inox under the cowl, but was told a few months ago that this was not such a good idea unless you first gave the whole thing a good fresh water blast, otherwise the CRC would just trap any salt residue under the CRC film, and rusting would occur regardless. I'm a bit nervous about blasting water all through the motors head/electrics, etcbadcompany wrote: (bit of advice to all you fishos spray under the fly wheel with carby cleaner after each trip as salt builds up under there and carby cleaner breaks it down the best)
