A dead barra is a dead barra.

Not a problem. As long as all other catch limits, rules and laws are adhered too

Pretty hard to measure a fish under water. But best of luck to them.

The number of people willing to get in the water in places that hold barra would be that low it won't make a lick of difference.

I don't see AFANTs side of the argument (rarely do). How is spear fishing barra going to affect its "iconic status"? To their own admission it won't affect the sustainability of the fishery. So it's a position based purely on emotion not on science or common-sense.

The barra's iconic status should be lifted higher ...

*no livebaiting
*no fishing in khaki or blue shirts
*no unpainted boats

AFANT rule #101
* Any barra captured via the approved method (rod, reel and lure) should be cut off midway through the fight so as not to affect the "iconic Status" of the beast.

Must have at least 25% of your boat covered in stickers of fishing/boating gear suppliers

Not at all. I think AFANT does a great job, they'll never be able to please everyone.

I'm with the khaki shirt brigade. But my wife said "Why don't you wear nice shirts like everyone else ..."

So I wore a good Country Road shirt out fishing next time ... oops :D

AFANT rule #102
* If a barramundi dies before rule #101 can be enacted, its sacred carcass must be immediately brought to the AFANT office for seven days of mourning, followed by gold plating, street parade and a funeral ceremony befitting of an icon.

LOL Fish Tank, I'd like to get tanked with you sometime and have a laugh.... funny.

The point of the whole exercise was to take a barra, on the extremely rare occasion we might see one on the wrecks or offshore. Gauging the size isn’t a problem, if it looks too small and is obviously not a stonker then the straight hook could be unleashed.

Matt, I think we should produce a FFF car bonnet ornament shaped like a leaping barra, take this iconic thing more seriously. Should be a boxing barra whacking that cheeky kangaroo on the Aussie sporting flag too. LOL .

I kid I kid.

So there goes the barra tossing competition. Which was probably a bit poor in taste anyway.

AFANT rule #103
* In future, all references to shortened name of the Barramundi (i.e. Barra) will not be tolerated as it diminishes the “iconic status” of the king of fishes.
