Hey guys does anyone know the best time of the year to go squid jigging is their a season for them ? . Cheers.

Good question, id be interested in some advice on this as well. one of the few things I miss from down south is a quiet squidding session.

Neap tides in the dry.
Havent tryed to catch them in years.
Might give it a go this week of some of the local jettys and wharfs

I got this lot at the end of the dry last year,all on a jig but I was in a boat with an underwater light.

Underwater lights are interesting. I saw a vid of some guys using underwater lights. The whole ecology thing happens. 1st plankton arrive, then baitfish, then squid & then the predators arrive.

Think about throwing the 1st one out as a live bait.

Let us know ow you go big one. I've been wanting to catch some squid for ages.

We used to chase squid from the Busselton Jetty and from the boat on the inshore weed banks within Georgaphe bay, W.A, primarily using squid jigs and locally caught herring kitted out with a pencil jig under a float. You'd catch squid down there all year round but their numbers would dramatically increase during their breeding season in Spring during the months of Sep, Oct and Nov. This would also be the time when the big Samson fish would frequent the shallower waters, chasing the large numbers of squid, great fun to catch from the Busselton Jetty on a handline. It is also during this period where it wouldn't be an uncommon event to catch double digit numbers of squid and squid above a kilo. There was one guy who manage to catch a deep sea variity of squid, not too sure what species it was, but the guy ended up keeping it and took it down to my mate who owned a fishing shop in Busselton at the time to report. The flesh of this thing was an inch thick! I saw it for myself and couldn't believe it, awesome bait for big Dhufish but not much chop to eat as it's texture would have probably been like rubber.

I was out at Fenton Patches about two weeks ago over night and a few come up to the boat because of the lights.

Cooler months in the Pilbara are when the squid school up in the shallows. Can be quite easy to catch 20-30 in a session.
