NT Barra Classic 2013

Post by Matt Flynn »

Being held this coming week on the Daly River - big fish were caught on last week's big tides as mullet came up the river - will the good fishing continue on the very different tide cycle this week?

That is awesome!
I've only ever fished the Daly twice and each time I caught a big fat Zero! The river looked great each time we went there, just bad luck I guess? Where are these fish being caught?

Most caught between No Fish Ck down to Elizabeth.

My son and his mate Luke fished with Merv Hughes' team and had a fantastic day. They hooked up heaps of good fish but only managed to get the one 75cm fish to the boat.

Many thanks to Merv and his team for looking after the boys and a huge thanks to DGFC (especially Deb Halprin) for again organising the Junior day. The kids look forward to this day more than christmas.

That is what fishing is all about!!

Cheers

Ziggy dropped a big fish at the boat yesterday, the biggest horse barra he'd ever tangled with :bricks: and had a great time out with Kevin and Mike. Thanks fellas, and all the organizers.

Sounds like fishing is very hard, after two days fishing word is there have been total of only 73 fish caught. Given the tides there may not be much joy for them until the bigger push on the second last or last morning. Thats tough going in anyones book.

NT Barra Classic 2013 - Day 2

The poor fishing continues with just more than 30 fish caught between all the teams :-(

Largest barra: Doug Sanderson 108cm
Champion angler: Steve Compain

Top 5 teams:
Top End Tackle World
Star Mountains Fishing Club
Guns & Roses
Mongrels
Takin' A Punt

Top 5 Anglers:
Steve Compain
Doug Sanderson
Rohan Short
Peter Washington
Phil Clark

Organisers are hoping that the building tides will get the fish going at the end of the comp. Some fish are being noted on sounders, but aren't biting.

A few results coming through, Top end tackleworld champ Team 1500 odd points and Steve complain Champion Angler 900 odd points, biggest fish 114 cm.
207 fish for the week, sounds like the toughest for a long long time - the competitors might deserve a medal for sticking it out in those conditions.
