Stucture scan gurus-any advice?
Got a HDS 7 jobby and for the life of me cant get it to work. Thought maybe the wiring was an issue(2nd hand boat) and sent it in the local auto elec to get the wiring tidied up/replaced. He tells me all that was connected, is back as it was with corroded connections replaced. Ole mate who sold the boat said it used to work. Any tips on whether the transducer could be buggerd, or who i could get to check it out? Also got intermittent problems with the GPS cutting in and out. Sounds electrical, but as a sparky , i make a good welder

As an electronics technician I make a fair electronics technician,
Step 1, check the power/positive/red all the way from the battery to each device, clean each joint or terminal with an ink eraser or very fine steel wool if it is really corroded.
Step 2, do the same with the earth/negative/black.
Step 3, assuming your battery is in good condition, turn it all on and manipulate/jiggle the power and earth leads across their full length while watching the screen to see if it drops off. Fix as you go.
Once these three steps are done 80% of your issues are gone.

If the problem is anything that you or I can fix.... It will be electrical not electronic, if you own a multimeter you are half way there...
If not buy one and get a sparky to show you how to use it.. As Pete said,Check all the obvious points connections, fuse holders etc.
I hope it's a power supply issue for $$ sake

Cheers fellas. Its due for a service shortly so i,ll get them to check it out while its in there. Power supply seems to be ok, so looks like the transducer could be RS. Hopefully not,but i,d better start saving some bickies by the sounds. Appreciate the advice.

So is the screen not showing any thing?
Grab another transducer and plug it in..........does it say no source on the screen.
is it the high speed transducer or the structure scan ducer?
Cheers
