Rod to match Antares V2

Post by galumay »

I have recently bought a Shimano Antares V2 (Saltwater Calais Japanese model), I will be using it for flicking soft plastics mainly, I have a Calcutta TE for trolling and a Daiwa Certate CT2500 on a Shimano Raider Flathead rod for spinning duties.

I am wondering what rod to match the Antares to, I fish from my tinny and also a fair bit of shore based work so I dont want too long a rod, but it needs to be light enough to flick small soft plastics, and strong enough to turn a barra or jack out of the mangroves.

Would another Raider be up to the task, or a Loomis or St Croix be better?

Go the raider. They are great value for one. And definitely handle it

The new g loomis gl2 series of rods are very capable and won't break the bank
When asked by a non-fisherman "how many fishing rods do you actually need?", the correct response is either:
A) n+1 (where n is the number if rods you currently have); or

B) n-1 (where n is the number of rods which would cause your other half to dump you)

It is hard to go past the Raiders at round $100, I think I have to spend a lot more to get a bit better rod. The one i have is a two hander for the spinning reel, are they also available as a single handed/pistol grip for the baitcaster?
