My girls first fish...

Post by balou »

I've been looking for a spot in the harbour to put my 4 and 5 year old girls onto their first fish for a while now.
After afew fishless trip with the kids, I was a bit under the pump to produce.
I decided to spend a day exploring the harbour by myself to find a spot which had heaps of little fish to entertain the kids.
I finally got onto a patch which consitently produce in 8m.

Decided to take the kids for run last week and my new kiddy's honey hole didnt let me down.
It was fish after fish for the hour we were there. It was mainly those red snapper (??), strippies, trickies and barracuda.
It was great to see the little ones catch their first fish. We pulled about 30 fish for the short time we were there.
Even mum who havent caught a fish since having kids got into the act.

I was going to keep afew of the bigger red snapper but wasnt sure what they would taste like.
Would have been nice to round of the day by cooking up the fish that they caught for dinner.

Hi Balou,

Well done!
It is alway great to see the little ones getting into fishing.
And the time spent fishing with dad is something they will remember for ever.

Have a good day,

Great to see a bit of leg work producing results. Can't wait to get my girl into it, is 3 months too early?

Mate good to see you put the effort into finding your own ground and it producing. The harbourr has lots of little gems in it due to its cyclone/wwii and shipping history as well as the deeper reefs and ledges. Takes a while to learn but well worth it once you do.

Thanks guys,

Might have to invest in some long rods and better reels. The girls really struggled with those little 1m combo in 8-10 m of water. At one stage I switch them over to my st croix / certate combo which made me a nervous wreck.

Now i just need to find a spot with non stop action for dad. :D :fishing:
