i lived in rockhampton 120km north of gladstone for 10 years and have seen a few that size in my time. one made that front page of the local rag, will try and find it but it was about that size. it was caught and relased in the fitzroy river about 3 years ago. so i would say the photo is for real.

Had a huge groper (approx. 3m) sitting under our boat when reef fishing on a trip out off the coast from the little Moyle. It would have been there for an hour or so and watched spanish flags, parrot fish & rock cod get brought up, but smashed any golden snapper that was hooked. Apparently we fisherman aren't the only ones that think goldies are alright on the tooth. There was also a big resident one living under Mandorah wharf that we used to feed until some bastard spear-fisherman decided to put a spear through it's head and leave it to die.

As above
From Rockhampton and remember A big one getting pulled out of the fitzroy river.

Remember snorkling with them around the Kepple islands.

I though they were protected though!! :|

Most my diving was at outer or man and wife, but we usually jumped in and had a look a the gropers cruising in the passage at conical.

What kind of boat are you in Harmsey, myself and the wife might be going up to the daly ourselves, We'll give a wave and say g'day
