FFF Seadogs 2020 brag mat comp changes

Post by Matt Flynn »

Re: the changes to this year's brag mat comp ... someone suggested the added species might be to accommodate Queenslanders - this is not the case, although Queenslanders and WA fishos are invited to enter.

I added more species because the NT has not had much rain and barramundi fishing will likely take a back seat to chasing other species until the next decent wet season.

Barramundi are still the premium catch with 10 bonus points for each fish. Dam fish eligible in final three rounds but without the 10cm+.

There is no landbased bonus this year, other than that there's not much change.

You have a good point re jewies and a -20cm handicap would make them far less worth entering. So I may do this.

Might also make dam barramundi eligible only for limited rounds as the NT is about wild barra, which are smaller fish. Queensland dam fishos would still be able to enter some fish though.

Someone suggested pulling threadies out of some rounds.

Further opinions welcomed.

Good to see you back Sullo, the NT mob need some competition.

Might have one or two entries from down Rocky way this year.

20cm handicap sounds good

I dont think you should be deducting points from any of the species, do it for jewies what about the macks, queenies etc, keep it as it is 1cm of fish on the brag mat = 1 point, every barra gets 10 bonus points, some people might fish bluewater and a 50-60 cm goldie is better then 0,

True Trent re similar sized fish but the aim is to take the heat off jewies, don't want them being targeted too much as they get barotrauma, no one will target goldies for the comp but if they get a good one they can still enter it.

Here's some changes, still time to streamline further.

Round 1, Mar - Barra, Threadfin, Jewfish, Golden Snapper, Trevally, Queenfish
Round 2, Apr - Barra, Threadfin, Jewfish, Golden Snapper, Trevally, Queenfish
Round 3 May - Barra, Threadfin, Jewfish, Golden Snapper, Trevally, Queenfish
Round 4, June - Barra, Threadfin, Jewfish, Mackerel, Tuna, Trevally, Queenfish
Round 5, July - Barra, Threadfin, Jewfish, Mackerel, Tuna, Trevally, Queenfish
Round 6, Aug - Barra, Threadfin, Jewfish, Mackerel, Tuna, Trevally, Queenfish
Round 7, Sep - Barra, Threadfin, Jewfish, Mackerel, Tuna, Trevally, Queenfish
Round 8, Oct - Barra only
Round 9, Nov - Barra only
Round 10, Dec - Barra only

There are +10cm bonus points for each wild barramundi (not dam barra) entered in 2020.

There are -20cm bonus points for each jewfish entered in 2020.

Dam barra (stocked fish) eligible only in Rounds 8, 9 and 10 in 2020. No +10cm bonus for dam barra.

There are no landbased bonus points in 2020.

Last chance to fine tune the rules, suggestions welcomed today.

To recap, main changes for 2020 so far ...

*Still best fish from six of 10 monthly rounds (same as before)
*More species eligible this year as recent wet seasons have been below average
*Barramundi still the premium species with 10cm+ bonus points
*Dam barramundi eligible in final three rounds, but they don't get the 10cm+ bonus
*-20cm handicap for jewies so they aren't unduly targeted, being susceptible to barotrauma

A bit late for the deadline, but..

Starting to think now that the plague has changed everything Jewies should not be penalised but a 20 cm bonus should be added to the Barra instead. Just saying :D
