State of Origin

Post by ronje »

You guys need to add a bit of spice?

Qld vs NT as a friendly side comp. Then you'll see why Qld (esp Rocky) is called the barra and beef capital of Aus.

The winning team of the 2018 NT Barra Nationals was from Qld with Craig Griffith (Rocky), Karim de Ridder and mate.

Up to it?

Sold a couple of FFF stickers to Banana Benders this week, looks like Seadogs will have Qld representation.

"Bluewater86" from Cairns was in last year but he is a pro guide now so can't enter for 2019.

Wash yer mouths out with soap you guys.

Couple more from down this way have signed up. Lucky for the NT that its not Craig Griffo or Karim (yet). But Mitch is a starter already.

Haven't even put your challenge up on the Aus barra capital's website at this stage

You guys want to put your own challenge up? https://www.facebook.com/fishingthefitzroy/

I'm happy to do it on your behalf if you're a bit reluctant to "stir the sleeping dragon" (completely truthful and unbiased of course).

There's a 134 cm and a 141 cm on the board already locally. Luckily for you guys, they're not on Matt's competition.

We haven't had a wet here either.

Ha! Dam fish are just over-fed, over-grown gold fish.

Agree with both of these sentiments.

Won't be a problem here as there's not a stocked impoundment ( they're big words for dams for you Territorians and Sand Gropers) within 150km of the Fitzroy.

These are wild fish. PLUS we have to put up with seasonal closures for 3 months of every year. (Some of us, anyway).

How do we know you guys aren't going to slip down to your nearby stocked dam (Manton)? Its been stocked for the last 25 years AND is only 40km down the track.

Obviously needed as wild caught barramundi can be problematic at times in NT.

Or Lake Kununurra which is a repository for Lake Argyle escapees. Neither of them count?

Guess we'll just have to trust you guys.

OK. Then I'll pass your challenge on even if we have the disadvantage of being late starters.

Be prepared.

I reckon you need to set some rules if you're going to do it Ron.

If it's State against State - is it the number of fish caught? Or the length of fish (individual) caught? I have no doubt the NT will lose if it's based on individual measurements. :naughty:
Combined could be a different story unless you grab some numbers.

Lures or live bait, or both? :moon:

Only way I see fair odds are a dozen NT fishos hit the Fitzroy for a given time say,... 5 days and then a dozen Rocky boys come to the NT for the same 5 day period (selected tides and research of course) - a challenge both logistical and unnerving in an unfamiliar river(s) for us all.

If it's individual monster Barra bragging straight up, you win

If it's end to end total measurements

I figure you're kidding when you mention Manton Dam

Bit late this year for a comp like that, Ninja.

Suggest that this year we just use Matt's comp as a "friendly". Play by your rules even.

We get similar comp fish down here with the exception of powertails. Can't compete with them.

There is interest locally about such a test though. Maybe annual combined with Matt's bragmat comp. Add an extra dimension to it maybe.

Bit of concept work to be done there. Maybe get the Rocky Regional Council to talk to Matt. Get back to you guys about it.

Have put your challenge up on the official Fishing the Fitzroy facebook page. Should appear by tomorrow.

Its got followers from all over Aus with plenty of Qld'ers who I'm sure would like to have a go.

Anyway, you guys need the publicity.

Ronje
