"I've got the Hornet back, heading to Saltwater Arm, pick you up at 4:20am" was the message from Richie on Monday night. Cool, I thought at the prospect of chasing some bigger Barra.
After a quiet start to the day ,which included getting rained on , managed to bag my new PB Barra, 93cm.
Caught on a "no name" soft vibe bounced over a rock bar. Put up a pretty good fight lasting about 10 minutes on 20lb gear. Took me around the boat a few times and there were some nervous moments went it came to the surface and we could see the leader running straight through the gill covers.....Some nice net work (the size of which would be perfect for popping the goldfish out of the tank at home) and the big girl was on the deck.
A good finish to the days off and a nice upgrade for the month.

This is not quite the upgrade I was looking for, and now seeing what others have posted in the last day or two I'm feeling a little embarrassed, but it's the best I could do. If there was an award for catching the most undersize fish I'd be a front runner. Anyway here's my biggest harbour fish for the month (54).

Don't talk like that brother. It takes a fair amount of skill catching a Barra during the dry and from the harbour at this time of the year a great effort.Marro wrote:This is not quite the upgrade I was looking for, and now seeing what others have posted in the last day or two I'm feeling a little embarrassed, but it's the best I could do. The truth is IMO you're well in front catching any bara over 75cm from the harbour. It's an interesting fishery in that respect and there are only a handful of spots I find I can target big Barra in there and that's only during certain stages of the tide, at certain times of the year.
The truth is if you want to chase big fish, you need to shift your thoughts to thinking like big fish and stick to targeting them specifically. Time and efforts will be rewarded mate but staying the course and persevering through tidal stages, working out their habits, their feeding times and behaviours will see you not only learn more, but catch greater numbers of bigger fish more regularly.
That's a great upgrade. Well done. Cheers.
Richie
