You NT fellas need a flag on a hook off Lee Point, or down deep at the Six Mile, or Mitchells Reef out of Bynoe, or Bass Reef ...

Good luck beating that mac close to Darwin. Its got to be pushing 25 kegs. Its pretty rare to get them that big here. Maybe 2 or 3 in a life time per angler. QLD or Kimberly ya see a few but rarely here unless you go to the wide shoals.

On a good run this year sullo, and ya got a dam barra round as well. Were farked!

Well I didn't beat sullo but was reasonably happy to get some where close enough to stay in the hunt for the over all comp. Got this 130cm to the fork spaniard from the vernons today on a Wolf herring on a patternoska rigged with wire.

Too hard chasing big Macks on fly so I will settle for a modest barra. This was the best of a half dozen caught sight casting the flats in Bynoe in less than a foot of water using 3/0 pink things.

65cm but at least I am on the board (thanks to my son for catching this one)

Well boys this round was quite painful. Once agin landed around 20 macs but no big ones. Hooked a few good ones but lost them to sharks;(

Best I could mange was only 102cm earlier in the month out at north gutter, caught on a 60g jig and stratic 4000.

Im glad you didnt get one that big Sullo. That thing is a honka. They get quite a few of them over there around this time of year. A couple of the shoals off the tip of cape york have horses fairly often. When pro mack fishing the buggers would blow you away on springers so the truely big ones never get landed. All you get back would be a straightened 10/0 heavy gauge hook or a straightened pig tail clip and a buster rubber. You would land fish to 35kg but the big boys just kept cruising.

And yes a lot of the big ones are caught on wolf herring or juvinile macs or barracuda being trolled around. Only problem here is that I havent found any one that sells wolf herring. The ones I got were from the boat I was working on. At night when cruising to sea they would jump onto deck. I had been stocking them since February just for this round.

Were you getting sharked at North Gutter Jon. I have never really had the problem with them out there. But in saying that I had a big hammer smash a bait at my Vernons mark the other day which was very unusual. Never had a mac sharked there but old hammer turned up as soon as the baits hit the water.

Sharks were ok at NG, but really bad at Verons. I hooked 11 macs and only landed 1 in my regular few spots. I had planed a trip to Byno last Monday but had my car window smashed over nite so spend the day getting it fixed before we went camping.
