dirty water , ruff wind chop / stupid fish that will eat a kitchen fork with trebles on it .cuddlescooper wrote:Come on Curt, Play fair. You have set me a challenge this year. To try and catch a mac on 7.6m tides with 15 knots of wind blowing constantly. What do ya reckon the chances are of getting one?
About normal , expect a 120

Re: FFF Seadogs - Round 5 - Mackerel Maulers
Got up this morning to hook the boat up with my old man to land a macky and my tow ball got stollen. I hate that..... So made a quick call to my cousin Dimi and just my luck he's on holidays
We launched and dinah beach boat ramp around 9 and made a quick trip to east point on a small patch of reef to get livies. weather today was great thank god seen a lot of fisher man out chasing a feed. Got our bait keen and confident to get another picture for this comp we started to troll. Out with the teasers rods and lures and made our way to the front of lee point. No birds heaps of bait on the sounder no mackies. stopped at a lil rock/reef donno what it was but was on the sounder and was holding bait dad calls to stop and try it out, packed up the gear anchored down and started to fillet the livies seemed like the right thing to do. Shortly after bang my dads line peels our first mac 10 seconds later lost it no wire trace devastated. Then mine goes for a run same deal Dimi my cousin gets a hit not so big or peeling line is bring up what was a tricky snapper half way up chomp only the head had survived. This was no good. I rig up with wire trace a running sinker, a strip of stripy on again macky a beautiful 69cm Spanish mackerel. Not much after that one but got a few pan sized trickies for a feed and my dad had a good time

You are welcome for the mark, but I think you'll find the school has moved
Never checked the accuracy of the camera GPS. Must be hard for the charter boat boys to keep their marks secret now.
The bird is a tern that I have trained to find fish schools, will be a story about it in a future NTMAG.

Well Pony, looks like you got your wish and the wind has done its thing. I still think the macs have gone on holiday with the Barra. I'm buggered if I could find a decent fish and its not like I didn't try despite shiit tides and conditions. I caught a dozen macs for the month but nothing bigger then 83cm from a day at Dundee. May have dropped one bigger fish but will never know. Congratulations to any one who scored a good fish for the month. Aaron looking like a dark horse in the comp.
