I think there were just as many Jewies (all be it mostly smaller models) posted as there were barra for the last round.

And even so I don't think it should be cut because they are hard to get. Might as well make it an all barra comp then Matt! The comp is fine as it is, if not already too heavily weighted in good barra fisho's favour still. At the end of the day it should reward the better all round fishermen by keeping it multiple species and if there hard to catch all the better. At least people get to get out of there comfort zone and have a crack at fish they haven't caught many/any of before. Take Lats 8) for example! Caught his first Jewie and then his second and third!

Ps There were only 12 barra caught at the Daly between 74 fishermen for the week end! Goes to show barra fishing is hard too. Are we going to quite the comp. I don't think so!

Was in Dubai with work for the month so missed out on the round but still good to have the mix of fish.As cuddlescooper said good to change and dont think you would have seen many Barra last month by the sounds of reports lately.

Shopping for Barra lures in Dubai was like walking into a $2 shop(all top name brands), compared to Darwins $15 bucks a pop
A Fish in the Boat is Worth Five in the Shop.

So it doesn't take the same amount of skill time or effort to find good marks, learn how to fish them and be there at the right time. Interesting! What about the 400 Gps marks on Flynn's card?

Oh and boat size don't mean shitt as most of the fish in the round were caught in a river by smaller boats, and last year I won the round in the harbour so that is a way out there comment............... The biggest Jew come out of the harbour, there's a tip for ya!

So what tides do you fish for jewies on ? Springs or neaps, plenty of marks in Darwin Harbour, still have to know when to go there and get them.

Same with macks on some of the reefs around here, fair enough if you can get out to the wide spots and get em in a bigger boat, but with the wind like it is at the moment in Darwin, have fun!!!

I'd like to see ya poling the longtails, now that would be fun :-)

I reckon the mix is good, same with the Barra, if you know where to go, pick the tides or the moon you will catch them. People are having fun trying this year though in a few spots.

Will be interesting to see the different fish that come through in the mixed round, and hopefully there will be a few billies this year

And you still have to get the big ones, doing well so far ponyplay.
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

Agree with you cuddles, most of my fish were caught in close proximity out of the small boat last year!

Another donut for me but at least it forced me to attempt to expand my fishing knowledge ( shouldn't be hard). Like it how it is Matt, a fantastic comp really. I don't really see how Barra are any different! Need to know where they eat, when they eat and hope they are hungry.

Could argue that you need a four wheel drive or big boat to access the rivers, or a lot more time than I have! The fisherman that can produce the best fish in the most rounds deserves the gong.

Damn straight. Finally crack a few and well I just hope it stays. And about the size of the boat thing... there was a 12ft tinny with a 15hp about 50m from me and he beat me with a 120cm. Aaron G in Mullet93's boat also beat me and their boat is quite a bit smaller than mine. I think it comes more down to effort, persistence and a pinch of knowledge.... and a poop load of luck sometimes.

Yep well done ponyplay

That's why I wrote the bit about you doing well :-)

Just didn't want the young fellers out there starting to think it was too easy after what you suggested.

Might end up with some serious competition then.

I think it is good how it is, variety is the spice of life. Even tho Im not in the comp I tried to catch a Jewie just coz of the comp.

If you wanted to tinker with it I would suggest having one of the months a compaction of the most species. Would be an active month on the forum with all the different species of fish getting posted. Would learn a few new species, and would be interesting to see the pics of little fish on a brag matt with the paper in the back ground.

Sounds like a great idea.

I am glad people want to keep the jewie rounds etc
