FFF Seadogs 2012 - How it Works

Post by Matt Flynn »

FFF Seadogs 2012 is FFF's newest line fishing competition, and replaces the annual FFF Awards.

The intention is to keep it simple, flexible and fun, while also allowing serious fishos a chance to prove their mettle in a multi-species, multi-habitat event.

There will be eight rounds through the year, each round lasting one month so everyone can get a day or two off work and fish each round etc, or you can fish the whole month. The Grand Champ will be decided from his or her best fish of six of the eight rounds (total centimetres), so if you don't have a billfish boat you still have a good chance at being Grand Champ. Billfish centimetres will be halved to help equalise with the other rounds.

All fish to be measured from lip to centre of tail (eg inside fork or outer curve). In the case of billfish it will be the lip of the lower jaw to inside tail fork.

Grand Champ winner will be based on total centimetres of his/her single biggest fish caught in six of the eight rounds, with billfish round centimetres divided by two (halved).

Each Round Winner will be based on centimetres of his/her single biggest fish.

If a Round or the Grand Champ tally is a draw the FFF judge will decide a winner.

For a chance at Grand Champ, it is important that entrants put up a fish each round even if it is smaller than the leading fish in the round, as the captor of the leading fish may not get a good fish in subsequent rounds. There is no size limit on fish, but please photograph undersize fish quickly for a fast release.

All fishing must be in NT waters.

To enter you will need a brag mat (no home-made ones allowed!), a camera and NT News newspaper from the month-long round in which you are fishing (this comp is not officially associated with the NT News). Pictures of fish must be taken on the brag mat with the newspaper in view.

Registration is free, but you must post a picture of your boat and its FFF sticker to register - post the picture on the separate thread in this forum. Landbased or boat-sharing fishos can register by posting a picture of their tackle box or car with a FFF sticker. Register here ... http://fishingterritory.com/seadogs-201 ... 28103.html

Photos must depict live or freshly-caught fish, no necked or obviously dead fish - the judge's decision on this will be final. Each entry must also include a short description about the capture, including rough location (eg Darwin Harbour, or river name) and type of lure or bait etc.

The rounds will be ...

1. Run-off barra - March
2. Greenwater barra - April
3. Jewfish - May
4. Mackerel - June
5. Tuna - July
6. Billabong barra - August
7. Tidal barra - September
8. Billfish - October

You can post a catch more than once during a round if you catch a bigger fish during the round. Billfish will have to be photographed as best the captors can with a brag mat, with the newspaper in view, and the FFF judge will estimate size.

Prizes for each round so far ...

1. Daiwa Coastal Barra baitcaster (or equivalent if superseded or out of stock)
2. Tonic Sunglasses
3. Basser Millyard (the makers of Classic lures) lure pack
4. SXR10 lure pack for each round, from Rapala VMC Australia
5. Fishing DVD twin-pack
6. Rod Harrison's Barra book
7. Lure pack from BOZOS soft plastics
8. Lure pack from KO Tackle
9. Spool of Super-Braid from Platypus

Tonics supplied will be polycarb, non-prescription, unless the winner wants to pay the difference for glass or script.

And for the Grand Champion ...

1. An HDS-5 Generation 2 with 83/200 transducer from Darwin's In and Outboard Marine - this unit has the facility to make sea floor maps and can be networked with your existing HDS if you have a larger unit that you wish to retain, but want the mapping facility.
2. A $500 Gift Voucher from Craig's Fishing Warehouse
3. Okuma Nemesis baitcaster from Rapala VMC Australia Pty Ltd
4. Rod and reel combo from KO Tackle
5. Curado 200G6 and a Raider Soft Plastic Baitcaster rod
6. FFF Seadogs 2012 Grand Champ Trophy

So get your boat registered for the year ahead, it's free! ... http://www.fishingterritory.com/seadogs ... 28103.html

There may be some minor rounds added later (not in the judging for Grand Champ) for mud crabs, cherabin and other species.

Finalised rules and dates published February 20, although FFF reserves the right to make further rule changes if any loophole is being exploited that is not in keeping with the spirit of the competition. FFF also reserves the right to ban anyone for any reason.

ALL PRIZES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AFTER THE EVENT in November 2012.

Good luck!

***And a reminder of an amendment made in Round 1 - no newspapers covering fish in the brag mat photos, lest someone cut their fish in half and extend it.

sounds good, more the merrier

Might see a few of you on the water!!!
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

No, Seadogs is just the name, anyone can enter and there is no cut-off date, but to be the Grand Champion would be more difficult if you enter after some rounds have been completed.

Seadogs Rounds don't start until March so there is plenty of time.

itsinmeblood ... you would have to register before the round

Given that it is free, it would be silly not to register, because you would miss your chance for a shot at the prizes.
