After a few weeks of using the bait-caster I've got to say that I'd never go back to a spin reel for barra fishing. Spin reels for everything else though.
It's all about having the right tool for the job. Awesome catching decent fish on a bait-caster.

Don't worry Mud...
He is young and still fall for fashionable shinny items...
But one day, hopefully he will grow in maturity and become wiser. Then he will understand all the mistakes and dramatic error of his youth, and will pick up a spin reel again.
He will then have the feeling of being back home.
This is part of life cycles...
Don't worry Mud.
Have a good day,
Pecheur

I give high praise to any man that can cast a spin reel accuratly enough to be a good barra fishermen. I tryed a spin stick for the first time in years the other day barra fishing and I will be fooked if I could land the lure within thirty feet of where I aimed it. What a stupid idea. Will never use one again unless im fishing a flat where you can miss your target by 20meters and not get snagged.

i think i have nailed it cause i always have used spin reels i bought a baitcaster and i had the problem of trying to get it goin the way i wanted! i can sit a lures/softie anywhere i want with my barra spin combo i think it just comes down to preference and comfitability

An awsome catch, you can see the size of the thing when you compare it to the fish that caught it which was 6ft and weighed nearly 300lbs

Re: Worst idea.....the Edsel, the Holocaust, the Baitcaster?
hahahahah this thread delivers!
for 10 years i have been a blind pleb follower and using a baitcaster, they were the fashion.
oh the torment, oh the horrible cr.p drag setups, oh the crappy casting distance, oh the crappy feel and look and tiny little winding handle......
hahahahahah
ive crossed back to the darkside and purchased a brand new spin set up, 30# lock down drag, smooth drag, more bearings, better balanced, longer casting, less maintenance!
thats my view anyways,
but plenty of ppl still do well with a old hand reel, so its different strokes for different folks and chalk and cheese, the price of tea in china, horses for courses type stuff.

Not this thread again.... I thought it got sorted out months ago.
Baitcaster - For blokes who know how to fish for barra.
Spin reel- for the girls and southerners.
