Can't help you, but am going over in April so it will be interesting to see what you find (and pricing of course).

Chop Hock Heng has good quality gear but is pricey. Five Dots, Hock Ann, Siow Chiang (Ubi), Sabre Tackle and Sabre Stokers are the best by a country mile.

yep visited all the ones on beach road, good prices for lures and jigs, even terminal tackle hooks etc if you look around.

no sales tax in most cases and with the aussie dollar up can get some good deals, check em out online as well!!!

Hi Shaynes-god, did you get to Singapore and checkout any of the tackle shops? - am going in a fortnight and hopefully will be able to get some time for myself to do some proper shopping (can't stand clothes shopping, but know that I am going to get dragged up and down Orchard Rd). Will be staying on Sentosa Island (for the kids of course).

Went last year, best bargains are braid. Looking at about $30 for 300yds of 30lb fins.

Just got back wednesday from a ten hour stopover in Singapore and spent three hours down beach road. The best deal is braid I got 600yd 50lb for around AU$60. Some deals on lures and most are willing to reduce price down from ticket prices. Reels and the like are not so cheap and are comparable to our prices. If you get on the MRT get off at Lavender Road and start heading back towards the city and you can't go wrong. Anyway have fun it's the best form of shopping.

Today I had a wander through a fair number of the tackle shops in the (rather extensive) list 2rods published at the start of this thread.

Basically I made a short list of those on Beach Rd, and on streets nearby.  I am staying on Sentosa Island and the taxi fare to get there was under S$10; the trip was no more than 15 minutes (non peak period though).  A tip; most of them don't open until after 10am, and some 11am, so don't waste your time getting up early!  

I was mainly having a bit of a brouse as there is nothing in particular I need ( as opposed to 'would like').  Generally most places offered help without trying the hard sell or being a nuisance.

This is a small fly fishing shop, and even though I admitted to the shopkeeper I don't fly fish, he was still quite helpful with a couple of questions I had about 'dressing up' (for the want of better terminology) stinger hooks and trebles on chrome slices (I had bought a couple of slices at Hock Ann Sports) with white fluffy stuff bound to the hooks not unlike a Maribu jig which I thought was an interesting idea and asked how it might have been done).  Ended up buying a few bits and pieces as you do.

  The fella's didn't  bother saying hello, and just kept yakking with a couple of mates about a few 'big fish' (5lbs!!!) that they'd caught recently which I thought was a bit rude, but not much different to the general standards of service you get in Darwin (not necessarily talking about tackle shops at home).


There are plenty of other tackle shops around Singapore, but this was pretty convenient with so many stores within such a small area.  Was an interesting area with streets like Baghdad St,  Arab St,  Kandahar St, Haji Lane etc.

Hopefully this is of interest to anyone travelling here at some stage.
