Hey Rhet, I have one in a two piece configuration no less, I quite like it but I would not say it is any better or worse than any other rod I have due to the spiral wrap, the only objective method of comparison would be to have two identical blanks, one in each configuration. You are welcome to give mine a try if you like.

Given that I've not used one I am willing to keep an open mind, but looking down a rod that looks like it is designed to pull out bardi grubs would turn me right off.

I can't understand how it would make the backbone issue better.

And if a normal rod is twisting then it's either built wrong or the blank isn't right.

Keen to hear your report once you have used it a while.

Looks are everything when it comes to fishing rods! Acid wrap is like an emo kid if u wanna b different go for it but honestly its a trade off its up to you but for mine keep it simple us hate to build a custom and b dissapointed!

I differ when it comes to the looks department mate. I prefer function.
You say it's a trade off, in what? I'd like to know the constructive stuff to make an informed decision so are you able to explain what you mean about trade off?

I purchased a T-Curve flight acid wrap rod a few years ago,it is a nice rod but I just didnt feel confident in loading it up when fishing tommycut and coastal cks, when driving the boat and jig trolling I found I didnt get any line wrapped around the tip of the rod,i put this down to the design, compaired to your normal style, so that was an advantage, however I much prefer the standard style of fishing rod tho. $100 and you can have my t-curve

Mate, at the risk of sounding like a pr..k you've asked for peoples' opinions and then gotten all defensive when said opinions have been stated so I'm not sure what you were after It sounds like you've made your mind up anyway so go and purchase the red haired stepchild of the rod world. For what it's worth I've used one and it cast ok, seemed to fight fish ok, but I just don't like them. Give me a custom straight guided St. Croix anyday. Pretty simple really, I don't like Loomis rods or Shimano baitcasters either but some of my mates love them, each to their own.

Not sure which bit of my text has me sounding defensive, but that's fine. I guess it's just your opinion.

As far as other peoples opinions about what I was asking (which was originally "does any one use them, and would you have a rod built with them again"). I got quite a few responses about what people thought it would look like, not how they found the performance of it, which is what I was asking.
Sorry to have sounded defensive, but I guess what some ones opinion about whether it's pretty or not, doesn't really add value or substance to a thread that wasn't asking about what do you think they look like. I know they look freaking odd, but is that just because they aren't the norm?

In my eyes, its kind of like asking peoples experiences and opinions on the fuel efficiency of a 4 stroke Suzuki outboard, and I get replies from members saying they don't like them because they are black? Not sure if that makes sense or not.

Anyway, I placed an order for one a couple of days ago, so only time will tell!

Mate has a 3 piece travel casting rod.

I borrowed it to test the theory. I tried putting the 2nd and 3rd pieces rotated at 90 degrees clockwise sequentially.

Ended up with guides at the tip rotated at 180 degrees (underneath the rod) to reel where the guides were on top of rod.

Played around with it a little.

Only thing I found was that the casting distance was reduced. I think that was because of increased friction at guides due to changed angles between line and guides.

The rod twisted to the right under load more than it did with the guides straight.

When pieces were offset 90 degrees sequentially in anticlockwise direction the rod twist was pretty docile. The twist tendency caused by leverage exerted by the winding handle and reel height was counteracted by the offsetting of the guides. The higher the profile of the reel, the greater the tendency to twist.

Not too bad with Curado but increasingly evident with Calcutta 200 and then 400.

I guess that u could liken it to the little direction stability fin adjustment just above a prop on an outboard motor which counteracts pulling caused by prop rotation.

Even a rod with the guides lined up correctly with the blank "spine" will twist depending on load, profile of reel and height of the guides.

I now find the blank "spine" and offset the guides and reel seat during construction to counteract the twist.

Its a tricky business and I don't know if its worth the trouble. But I feel better after I finish the rod!
