New rod and reel combo
Hey just wondering if anyone has either of the following:
Shimano Raider II MF Barra Flickstick BC (MF- Mexican Fire) Rod
Abu Garcia Revo Inshore Reel
I'd love to know what you think of them on their own and as a combo because I have kinda got my eye set on this little combo.
Thanks in advance

Re: New rod and reel combo
Reel is good and the rods nice to use but very fragile, I have busted 1 cos I lent on it and miss us busted one high sticking a 50. Very unforgiving rod that needs to be treated carefully.

Re: New rod and reel combo
if you going to get a raider you need to get the 621
its the toughest one they make.
team it up with a revo or top of the line shimano (curado or cronach)
and you will have a top set up.
alot of the giudes use this exact setup. (as dose the barra lodge at managrida)
and the heli fish guys.
have a raider 621 teamed up with a curado.
would of caught more then 1000 fish on it over the last year and a yalf.
great setup. even better then my old shimano calais on a custom rod. (12 years old now)
but that was top of the line when first purchased in 2001.

Re: New rod and reel combo
Reels are strong and last. Rods are nice to use but I also broke one of those rods easily, lure hit it when it pulled off a snag.
Id probably spend the extra $70-$90 and get one of the new Loomis models instead, or even better a St Croix online from the US.

Re: New rod and reel combo
Great advice guys, thank you.
I think the 621 will be my choice simply because I haven't got the cash for a Loomis or St Croix. If I bust a shimano raider I can probably afford to uy 2 more for the price of one of the others
Whilst I'm at it any tips on a good set of lip grips as I sent my last pair to the depths last boat trip?
Cheers

I paid $130 for a raider last year from bcf. New loomis gl2 is $200-$220 in darwin. My st croix was $170 inc delivery from usa. Not as exy as you might think.

When it comes to lip grips just go the cheap ones they all do the same job. My last set has lasted 2 years so far and it only cost 25 bucks.

Which St Croix did you get Max Power?
Cheers for the advice Ben Jam thought that was the case and wasn't really prepared to pay in excess of $100.

Tackleworld has some nice little gillies lip grips that have a belt pouch and lanyard so they wont go to the depths.

Hayzie I got an Avid series 12-17pd Med fast action for $150. Postage was $40 but went halves with a mate who got the same rod so $170 each.
Tackleworld has the same rod with $499 on it.

Re: New rod and reel combo
As far as the revo real go,s they gave all compeitors a revo inshore , the blue one,s that was about 2-3 years ago and i have flogged the guts out of it, and as yet i have had to do nothing to at all ,and still go,s like the day i got it, so yeah very good real, as for the rod i havent used one of the raiders, but i have herd a lot of good things regaurding those st corix rod.s., i will be getting one if and when i break my loomi of wich i have done before (sadly) i whatched a show on discovery channel,{ How its made} and they were making those st corix rods, didnt relise they are a hand made rod !!, no machines used at all , very good quality rod from what i saw...

Re: New rod and reel combo
Spend the extra for the better rod, raiders are brittle and heavy compared to the same poundage loomis or st croix. You'll break the raider and will have spent more replacing it.
Have to diagree with benjam about grips - you get what you pay for and there is a reason bogas are $150. Cheap ones do last if you rinse and spray with inox every trip though, I've got both and the bogas don't drop fish, the cheap ones will occasionally.

Re: New rod and reel combo
I bought the ABU Revo Inshore and have it mounted on an ABU Verdict carbon fibre rod , nice combination .
The reel I got off Ebay from the US and the rod came from Tacklewharehouse in the US , the rods are not available here in OZ .
The reel was 200 including postage and the rod cost 100 inc postage from the US.
Kev.
