Each to his own as Gra says.

Fair enough with the longer casting distance of spinning outfits over baitcasting outfits.

But why is that?

Geez Graham, you must have arms like a pygmy to use a 5'6" baitcaster like that.

Just the way the line unloads of the spool Ron, generally the lead guide on spin rods is set a little further from the reel seat, and, somewhat larger diameter than on b/c rods, with less guides overall, allowing the line to pass with far less restriction.
If you look at it in slowmo, you'll see the line is practically straight as it goes thru the first guide on a true s/c rod.
Alvey did away with the big ring right in front of their reels as it reduced casting distance due to the line 'flogging' as it tried to squeeze the coils through it, and went to a bigger lead guide on their rods with it set well away from the reel.
Completely different style of reel, I know, but the principle applies.
It's pretty much the norm for spin setups nowadays.

With b/c outfits, the line has to overcome the initial inertia of the spool starting from rest.
Even tho' the line comes off in a straight line, this, and the generally greater number of guides all combine to reduce the overall casting distance.
Add a fixed(non travelling) levelwind, and the problem is even further compounded.

Being 'vertically challenged' and of proportionate build, I have no problem at all.
Added to that, the Ugly has a foregrip allowing the reel to rest against my forearm, keeping everything snug during an extended tussle.
I rarely suffer from the muscle fatigue encountered by a lot of my compatriots who rely solely on their arms.
As I said, it's about going with what suits your needs/style.
