I've decided to dust off the fly gear but need to update a reel.

Can anyone suggest a good brand (but not soooooooper good $$$$$$$$$$$) 8wt salt water fly reel and line.
Weight forward sinking or neutral line?
Just chasing Barra, salmon, queens, trevas, togas.....

Which tackle shop in town is the best for fly gear, visited a few on the weekend, doesn't seem to be too popular.
I need it within a couple of weeks before a big trip.

Try Islamder LX 3.8 , Tibor Everglades, Felty fly reel, they are some of best reels. Check eBay there are some good deals there

Check these out!

Australian made and owned. This will be my next fly reel and anyone that has one swears by them, anyone that doesn't have one wants one.

Have a look at a Shimano Biocraft XT. In terms of bang for your buck they are nigh on unbeatable. I have had my 9/10 fot 4 years and still haven't needed to open it up and for me that is saying something. None of the anodising has lifted either which I commonly see in some reels.

A Tibor everglades is a nice reel Fruity but it's not exactly cheap either. Nor for that matter are Feltys.

Thanks fellas
The Harfin reels look good!
I've seen the shimano in one of the local shops, I might give that a go.

Check out the Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) BVK Super Large Arbor reels. This reel will hold your fly line and about 250 metres of 50lb backing while still remaining really light. They have a good drag system and the anodising is top quality. They are available from Fishing and Outdoor World at a good price.
Scientific Angler has just bought out a new range of lines which are also available from FOW at a reasonable price.

Mate I've owned quite a few 8wt fly reels. My advice:
- If you've got the money and want to support an Australian business buy a Harfin
- Buy a Redington Behemoth rather than a Shimano Biocraft. The Behemoth is cheaper has a better drag and a lifetime warranty.

Regards

Chris
