tell em they can do it if they ban professional jewfishermen from charles point, dundee and point blaze as a payoff if not, i recon dodgy be the one who delivers the fatal blow to the hull of the HM DODGY and we (mainly BB) should get the credit for having a positive impact on our fishery . something a profession fishermen never will do

I think you've all hit the nail on the head. Just by reading there has been a heck of a lot of organisation and sweat into ready the next Jew hot spot to hit the sea floor.
Let them organise another illegal fishing boat to make better use of.
BB if there is anything that needs doing thru the week I am on holidays so can help if needed. Am still anoyed at myself for forgeting about the working bee to prep the floating slab.
Will deckie with the Codfather if he uses the mighty beast to tow the slab out.

I agree with your views 100% except that no one has addressed the public liability issue.
Who pays if something bad happens?? It could cost $$$$$$$$$
"Nothing will happen" is not an adequate answer.
We need some specialist advice from AFANT on this.

Before you all get too emotional, the quote was to cover all 3 if the other two hulls were ready at the same time as ours. The other two hulls are not ready(not eta) therefore we are free to sink it ourselves.(this has been confirmed by fisheries some time ago)
I'm not personally worried about insurance. It's shorelands problem until it hits the water, then it's ours. If we make contingency plans for all the obvious problems we may face then we are laughing.
If I stressed about everything in this world, then I just wouln't get up in the morning.
ps
If it sinks somehwere on the way, we can always send Dodgy down with scuba and a sledge hammer to smash it to peices. He has strong arms that boy.

Regarding liability, it's either FFF or the individual members who move the hull who could be held liable. And just watch everyone duck for cover when something goes wrong and there is a bill.I'm not personally worried about insurance.
For legal purposes a court may find that FFF (my business) is the mover of the hull, so I am personally concerned about insurance.
As for not stressing about everything in this world, I don't see the relevance of the comment. Carefree attitudes don't stop accidents or pay legal bills.
I will contact an insurance broker and see if they can offer coverage of the move. I expect AFANT may pay the insurance, I will contact Chris Makepeace and see what he thinks.

Doesnt sound like a "carefree attitude" to me.It's shorelands problem until it hits the water, then it's ours. If we make contingency plans for all the obvious problems we may face then we are laughing.
I hope worrying about insurance doesnt slow down, stop or increase the hassle of sinking artificial reefs in our harbour.
If it does sink in the wrong spot, at least Grants massive sledge hammer might be a bit easier to swing underwater
Cheers
Jason

wreck
Sounds great Jason but it still doesn't address the problem. I don't like bureaucratic cr.p either but we have all seen things go pear shaped in unexpected ways. This is a public reef that is being sunk and all bases must be properly covered.
Not to mention that if we do stuff it without insurance you can bet there will be new rules brought in about sinking reefs that make it much harder for the public to sink more reefs. The federal reef regulations are already almost impossible to comply with - fortunately we are working inside the federal boundary.
I agree the chances of a mishap are slim.

I'm all for covering bases, My older brother said "always do your homework first"
If a process can be efficent and done in a timely fashion and within reasonable cost, then I'm all for it. A decision has to made regarding(real risk - not perceived)risk and actually achieving the results were looking for.
If insurance is achievable ok. If it lands in the too hard basket. Then I'll put in writing that I Sir BarraBeast Bartholomew Stantly Winston Chadlington the third, is soley responsible for any liabilities associated with the sinking. (except any mother in laws! involved)
ps
I have a plane ticket to Mexico booked.(one must always do homework )
there's 3 types of people in the world
people who make things happen
people who watch things happen
and people who wonder 'what happened!'
and people who skip the country to escape a law suite

It'll get sunk either way - the issue is that the NT Govt can sink it at no cost to us and with full public liability coverage. We don't have any cover.
I will get a cost on insurance next week, and I'll also speak to NT fisheries - it may be that FFF can get government coverage, with our volunteer FFF members doing the job as planned and getting the kudos.
I'd like to see what the options are. We might then have a system for all future reef sinkings.
And that way, if BarraBeast goes down with the ship, we can afford something like a state funeral with lots of flowers

insurance
I have been chasing up the insurance side of the MV Dodgy sinking and finally found a broker who knew a bit about the subject, as he has had similar requests. He said most insurance companies won't insure artificial reef sinkings because of perceived high risks, but he gave me the names of two companies that might do up a policy. I am currently in discussions with one of them, which is Aon.
I also contacted the NT Government fisheries department again to get their advice on liability as well as their own plans re sinking the three hulls including MV Dodgy and whether FFF members can be involved in launching the MV Dodgy in a government-sponsored sinking - unfortunately I can't get detailed answers from them until next week.
If forum members wish to proceed with the sinking before I can get answers on insurance then any liability issues will rest solely with those who sink the boat and not with North Australian FISH FINDER. I've got no problem if forum members want to go ahead as long as they know where they stand regarding liability.
The recent incident where a diver got stuck on a new artificial reef in Darwin Harbour illustrates how complex this matter is - FFF members have given me lots of theories about how we are not liable for anything and nothing will go wrong but the truth is that no one knows.
North Australian FISH FINDER as operator of this forum and promoter of artificial reefs will be in the firing line if there are any incidents during or after the sinking and that's why I can only support the sinking if it is insured. If the insurance quote proves to be too high or has unreasonable conditions then I suggest the NT Government should do the job with assistance from FFF.

show us yer money!!
I met Shorelands(again ) at the hull today. They are ready to lift it.
There's a 50% chance we can launch it THIS SUNDAY. Shorelands have to hire a low loader. I'll find out tomorrow if ithe low loader is available for this Sunday.
