Another DeLyghtful trip to the Perons

Post by Agent86 »

Had great weekend away with son Jordan Smart and fellow FFF member Melv, couldnt have been better, the weather was pretty good and the fish played the game, didnt seem to matter what we tried, they must have missed us because they kept coming back. Have been a bit slack this year with the bigger fishing trips around the place with the acquisition of a new Mothership for future trips, the Sea Eagle.

And it was about time we went, as well as that these old posts from facebook kept popping up and making me jittery with all the pics from this time in previous years, so we made a plan and headed to Dundee Friday arvo, had a burger at the lodge before we launched the boat and headed west :-). the first night we stayed in the shallows near Pt Blaze and got a few nice Blue Salmon. The next morning we were off out to some shallower ground south west and first drop managed a couple of nice Goldies

we tried a few different spots and managed to get a few fish from each, as well as chasing some Tuna around and having some great fun with them, caught a few nice longtails, had one as sashimi the first night home, yum. caught a few Mack tuna as well and kept one for bait a bit later.

after a mad session on tuna we headed in to have a go for some Queenfish, the tide was a little higher than we usually fish so we went for a slow troll around, didn't take long before Melv had his lure smashed by a big queenie which peeled some line and leapt in the air a few times, it was another amazing session on the queenfish, we kept a couple for some nummus later and let a few go before we got tired of pulling them in :|

another great session on the queenies, we went to try for a jew, sit and rest for a bit to wait for the tide change, had a feed and dropped a line in anyway to see what was down there. Well so much for the change of tide, over the next hour or so we pulled in a few good Jewfish to top the day off, then headed out to some shallower reef to have a go where we got a few smaller Goldies, could let them go there though as we were only in 7 metres, sharks started so we called it a night and passed out, after a few nice cold beverages of course.

Next morning we headed out and did some jigging for a few hours, another great session pulling in all sorts, Trout, Bluebone, Tuna, all sorts of Cod, plenty of stripeys, Tricky's, Trevally, Nanygai, an amazing variety.

we went out a bit further but didnt really get too much so set up and went for a troll to see if we could find a sailfish or small Marlin, unfortunately I had left the garfish at home so we didn't have the best bait, threw out a few skirts and minnows and trolled around for a while, we managed a nice Cobia that came in from the side and smashed one of the trolled skirts, peeled a bit of line before we got it back to the boat, a bit of excitement. I managed to jig one up as well dropping a jig on a bait school.

We anchored out wide overnight and got some squid in the lights, managed quite a few and ended up having a good feed of them along with some Jewfish which was great :-)

We had our first decent effort at trolling for billfish on the last day, managed to raise a few, a small Black Marlin was hitting the skirts at one stage and a couple of smaller sails came up and had a go a bit later, there were some good schools of bait showing on the sounder around the place and eventually we got a pod of good sized sails up, there were 3 or 4 following us, one hooked up on a skirt and took off, unfortunately the hook pulled after a minute or so, i had a pilly thrown out to one and it scoffed it but didn't hook up, one of the sails grabbed the teaser a couple of times trying to rip the squid off, then Jordans rod hooked up and we were on. A fairly short spirited fight and we managed to get him in. To land a nice sailfish on the last day, Jordan was stoked, smile from ear to ear with his first Sailfish and it was the first time we had made a real effort to troll for them. First Sailfish for the boat 'DeLyght' as well was great.

Lyn Smart had a big weekend at home with the other Kids and sport, as well as a bit of a cleanup around the place, thanks for letting us go fishing xxx

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

Insane!

Love the shot of the squid, something different.

Great to see a sailfish as well, what a cracker year for NT sails.

New boat is impressive, the fish are in serious trouble.

Yes mate, an absolute belter of a trip. Definitely one to remember. Not often you can nominate a species or method, smash it till you've had enough, leave em biting and move on to the next option. Again and again and again.................. 8) :catch:

Quality weather, vessel and company just enhance the experience. Thanks again
