Some good king from Fitzroy Q

Post by ronje »

Last couple of days apparently.

Knew that the big ones were back but had a few things to attend to.

Will go threadfin fishing Mon, Tue and Wed.

This time I'll take a local paper for the comp. Forgot it last time.

The 147cm one wasn't the biggest. Was told that the smallest one (in town reach) was 120cm.

They're good fish alright.

Most fishos here use spinning rods/reels 'cos of the extra line needed. I've been nearly spooled twice on a baitcaster that I thought had enough line.

I don't like spinning gear much as I can't cast it like a b'caster. But it works on big king.

Have just got a Quatum 8.1: 1 gear ratio baitcaster with 20 lb drag to try out.

Has a bigger spool than most so can hold a lot more line. I managed to fit 190 metres of 30 lb braid on it compared to the other b/caster reels I've got for about 100m of 30 lb. Feel a bit more confident so will try it out Tues/Wed.

Geez, Flicken. Hard to understand that a live mullet didn't get a king. Live mullet better for king than a big live prawn, I reckon.

Was 152 not 154 AND to the tail tip.

Probably 130 or so to the fork.

That's what Gerry and I are looking for in the comp.

They were there in their hundreds just as the wind started a few weeks ago and chased the prawns away. Gerry got a couple before he'd signed up to the comp properly.

Anyway, the prawns are back now so bigger king won't be far behind.
