Broome Sails

Post by Slayer »

Been working over in Broome the past few months and finally organised a day off to go sailfishing. Reports were good with larger than average fish being landed ( 25-30kg) for early in the season. Headed out in flat seas and began trolling with teasers on the out riggers, one flat line teaser and one shot gun.The other rods were rigged with skipping gars which we were to switch- bait fish that came up on the teasers. After about 40 minutes skipper casually says" Sail right teaser" I dropped back a gar and it was smashed. As Iam free spooling my fish to let it swallow the bait another three sails appear behind the left teaser. Tthe first of two double hook ups and my fish is up there in the 30kg range and jumps all around the boat before making a blistering run emptying the spinfisher in no time. After those first two we caught another two or three all around 20-25kg before the fish went a bit gun shy coming up to look but showing no interest in our baits. All up it was still a good day and its made me keen to put more time in back in Darwin this build up (after a metery of course).

Great to see Slayer

I am hearing superb reports from Sail City out of Darwin too, although the sails are smaller, but there seems to be a lot of them. Might be because more people are chasing them now, but they are there :catch:
