Sunday billfish

Post by Matt Flynn »

There's going to be a few FFF out at Fenton Patches chasing billfish on Sunday - put your name on this thread if your boat is coming along, and your VHF call sign.

Mine is The Tardis

I should be out there somewhere. I should respond to "Southern Star".

Whats your plan of attack? Trolling lures or mullets/gars?

Cheers

trolling

Post by Matt Flynn »

It will be trolling mullets and gars and maybe a pusher or two. I will try the Fenton wrecks and Fenton Wide. If we all work together we should be able to find the bait congregations.

And maybe a jig or 2 around the edges of the bait schools.

Sunday Morning

Post by jasonmcc »

Headed out to Fenton Patches this morning to do a bit of Billfish Trolling. I had never rigged a swimming mullet before but the first one I did swimmed like a dream. We did about and 1 1/2 hours of trolling for zero results, I got bored so did a bit of Jigging/Bottom fishing. Ended up loosing 3 Williamson jigs in a row to Mac's :banghead: . I had wire trace on the hooks as well as a leader but they still bit me off above the wire. Caught a few odd ball species and then headed out to North Gutter. Weather was awesome but it was stinking hot, had a couple of swims out there to cool off. We had a good time out there landing a heap of GT's and got a good feed a reefies .

Headed back in at about 2:30 just before the sea breeze picked up. Was a good trip, would of been better to pick up a Sail like Matt/Dodgy but they put in more planning/hard work.
