Fishing for trout in Tassie from Darwin

Post by ntpie »

Looking for some advice. My partner and I are taking our car from Darwin to Tassie in September/ October. We are planning to stay 10 - 14 days and have not booked anything yet. I normally lure fish for barra but am really keen to catch some trout on lures and bait. We are looking at doing a fair bit of exploring but maximising fishing opportunities is a definite goal. happy to stay a couple of nights a dedicated fishing place, but not too keen on the whole fly-fishing thing tbh. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hit the lakes, it has been dry and the rivers less reliable in these conditions.

thanks Matt. Do we just get advice at regional tackle shops? Will be frowned upon not being fly fishos, like live baiters in the NT?

Most people here chuck lures. Also plenty of livebaiters πŸ˜„
Tackle shops always helpful or checkout Tassie FB pages.

Waders are hugely helpful in rivers and many lakes. You can catch fish without them, but you'll fish more good water with them.

Even a pair of leg waders are a big plus.

Get neoprene, the plastic ones don't keep the cold out.
