Fire on a boat is a terrifying thought
I had my boat wash away at the south once- hope that's all that has happened with this empty tinny

Yes, fire would be awful. Nowhere to run.
Been lucky to avoid bad things at sea, but did see a mate's boat split a seam way out off Dundee, fortunately it was two-boat trip and they successfully bailed madly while being towed home.
A split is always a possibility with pressed hulls, and alloy boats can have electrolysis issues.
Gotta have jackets and EPIRB within easy reach, no good if they are buried.
At least in NT waters you last a long time paddling, down south you get hypothermia.

That news report is for a separate incident of a boat sinking on the Daly a few years ago

Thanks, fixed ... with a link to the "republicannewsgazette", lol.
Weirdly, only news report about the Daly event I could quickly find outside Facebook and NT News (subscription only) was on three USA republican/conservative websites? And all seem to be written by AI. I posted one of the links above.
Things are really going wacko online. Reminds me of getting a Wagner PMC email signup on here immediately after I posted links to early events in the Ukraine war, agendas are being pushed everywhere.
