Re: The current status of NT fishing
For anyone who didn't already know, the big issue at the moment in the NT is the closure of some remote areas by traditional owners to commercial barramundi netting, which has pushed the netters into areas where much of the recreational fishing takes place.
Among the proposed solutions is a call for annual catch quotas, which makes sense for many reasons, it could also allow for variations in annual weather patterns, annual recruitment of young fish etc.
Another and/or option is to reduce the number of netters.

Should also mention land clearing on the Daly catchment for cotton.

Terrible thing to do anywhere, but especially in a place that has an annual wet season.
