Global warming and overfishing. And any good news we can dig up.

Black jewfish artificially reared

Post by Matt Flynn »

From NT Fisheries FB page, I can't get a link to the post for some reason, so here's the text ...

"Baby spam alert!👶 NT Fisheries are proud to announce the birth of… baby black jewfish!
In an Australian first, the Darwin Aquaculture Centre has successfully spawned and reared black jewfish larvae through to maturity! 🐟
Using DAC’s established marine systems and aquaculture technology, a full moon and jewfish spawning season underway... adult jewfish were induced to spawn. Within 12 hours, the eggs hatched and the team welcomed baby jewfish into the world!
31 hours later their mouths opened, ready for their first feed.
And just like that, our babies made first grade! By Day 28 they were juveniles, measuring 16mm.
Our local black jewfish is fast growing, high in value and a great table fish - so the potential to farm jewfish presents an exciting possibility for the Northern Territory!"
