Recommendations

Post by JP90 »

Hi, I will be fishing up on the top end of Australia near the Goulburn Islands later this year and was after some recommendations.

Looking at getting a Shimano Talica 12 2-Speed or a Tiagra 20A along with a Calcutta 400B.

Would like to know what Rod recommendations you guys might have or experiences with these reels you might have.
(No real rod size preference as of yet)

Was also thinking of putting 80lb braid on the overhead reel and 50lb+ on the Calcutta, any recommendations on decent braid?

Targeted fish will mainly be Tuna, Mangrove Jacks, Barra, Jewfish, Snapper, Trevally, Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Queenfish etc...

Cheers.

Fins is good braid. Whatever line, main thing is to take an extra spool in case you lose line.

Reels sound good, not sure what rod model to recommend - Samaki range is worth a look.

I would go all spin reels and not worry about the over heads.
If you like shimano maybe get a 8000 saragosa with a 6ft 9 terez heap of different weights for your bigger pelagics and jewies.
And then either a 4000 or 5000 stradic or sustain for your barra and jacks and the like with a 7 foot rod in the 6 to 10kg range.
You can troll/cast/jig and do the lot with spin gear bit more versatile if your limiting yourself to 2 set ups.
