Top End fire season

Post by Matt Flynn »

Seems to be a lot of fire up north already on Sentinel (image attached), is Darwin getting more than average smoke this May?

Re: Smoky around Darwin?

Post by Matt Flynn »

Big fire south-east of Darwin, as per bottom image.

Map above it shows Top End is where all the action is, looks busy for May.

Most Kimberley fires now extinguished since first post on this thread.

Rangelands map (bottom) vs NT fire incident map today.

Rangelands map here ... https://www.firenorth.org.au/nafi3/

Incident map here ... https://www.pfes.nt.gov.au/incidentmap/

According to the incidents map there's nothing serious happening.

Camping is much more fun without flames :D

Smoke levels seem to be down a lot compared to this time last year, at the moment anyway...

Belyuen over on the Cox peninsular started lighting up right on time and the burn off seems lighter than other years. Lack off wet season growth maybe?

Still getting short & curlies wafting on the decks every day though.
