PFOAS make your tackle smaller

Post by Matt Flynn »

There has been a lot of publicity given to perfluoroalkyl substances (PFOAs) from firefighting foam getting into waterways around Australia, including the NT's Katherine/Daly River system, polluted by contamination from Tindal RAAF Base.

Katherine people have been exposed via drinking water, and fish have also been contaminated.

A recent study found that exposure to these substances makes a man's tackle smaller ...

Some things the study attributed to PFOA exposure:

1. Reduced semen quality (bla)
2. Reduced fertility in men (bla)
3. Reduced penis length, width and testicle size (uproar)

Was this aspect measured when they screened people for health issues in Katherine? ...

The good news is that reverse osmosis filters will remove some of these substances ... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/23363364448 ... 01&mkevt=1

From a PFAS expert ...

“In my mind, PFAS cause health effects because you have the same kind of effects reported in multiple studies in multiple populations,” ... Birnbaum pointed in particular to longitudinal studies, which follow populations’ exposures and health over time.

“You have longitudinal studies showing the same effects in multiple populations done by multiple investigators and you have animal models showing the same impact,” said Birnbaum.

In addition, she pointed to studies that show the mechanism through which PFAS chemicals cause harm in people.

She pointed in particular to the relationship between the chemicals and immune response, kidney cancer, and cholesterol in humans, saying, “That data is very clear.”

Latest news on PFAS - one of the new chemicals being used causes liver and kidney damage, says this report ... https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... ing-dupont

While this mentions packaging as a source, an RO water filter can help reduce exposure to PFOAS, I have been running one like this for eight years because we use rainwater, and the water tastes superb ....https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/23363364448 ... 01&mkevt=1

(Need a water filter here in Tasmania because of regular smoke contamination of rainwater.)
