Larrakia rock wall
Today was my first time going to larrakia rockwall, as I discovered one of my mates lives in the base and can get me in. Got there around 9:20 and I started throwing some chromies and big soft plastics around, although water clarity wasn't great, and we were getting a bit of wind which was annoying. Eventually gave up on lures and switched to bait, opting for a squid and pilly cocktail on a running sinker rig. I go for a might hoick out... and my bait flies off . Great. I try I second time, and this time the bait stays on but I can nothing, and bring in my bait to see that I have been robbed. It was at this time I decided to switch to dead mullet. Straight away I started getting bites, but didn't manage to set the hook the first time. So I tried again, and on the second attempt hooked into what felt like a good fish. I felt weight, then big tail beats and headshakes as whatever this was went off on a relatively short but brutal run. I could feel my line touching reef, and any minute I was half expecting heart break. To my relief, the leader held and after a short but extremely spirited fight, a decent golden trevally came to the surface. My mate grabbed it's tail, and we got it up. The fish went 58cm to the tail fork. Not bad, considering it was my first time there, and my mate was yet to catch something there . Hung around a bit longer, but to no avail so we left around 12:15. Love our land-based fishing
