gunn point camping trip.
so the monday this week we all had a couple of days off, so to spend the time we decided to all go on a camping trip to gunn point beach. we packed the following monday morning and at about 1 o clock we were off. when we got there it was on the low so as soon as we set up i was pretty keen to get onto some whiting. no whiting around but one of the craziest things ive seen. i decided to cast this piece of prawn on a hook and as usual i felt a bite and set the hook. i could feel this weight like a rock. i pull him up to the top and its a big buck. he wasnt hooked and was just holding on so i lost him. i decided to cast out in different directions and every cast id have a mudcrab on my line. after constantly losing them i finally managed to hook one in the leg. i carefully wound it in, she dropped the leg but i still managed to get it. it wasnt a buck but a nice jenny.
. it seemed like the right place as at about the 4 metre tide mark the whitish sand would turn into a muddyish brown coloured sand. that was that story. that afternoon there were a lot of whiting so we chucked out some livebaits with no luck. it was night so we got firewood and decided to have a barra and sharking session. no barra but some nice specimens were caught and we lost some pretty big sharks. my 20lb setup was half spooled by something big and i had that combo on hold. the key when targeting barra or other species off any beach is not to cast as far out as possible but to cast out in the relatively shallow water where the fish are feeding. also to mention we put some crab pots out on the low so it was off to bed for the next low at 4, o clock in the morning. all my pots were chock a block full of crabs and we also trapped 3 cod that were eaten the following evening. (it just came to my mind that my camera didnt have night vision so the dolphin torch provided for some pretty blury images) . we ended up with our legal limit of crabs. and went to sleep. the next afternoon before we left we had a fish and only managed to catch a blue salmon measuring 61cm and then unfortunately it was time to go home . that was the end of that trip. i just cooked up some beer battered salmon and whiting with salad. . that concludes that report. just a little extra from the day before, a barra i caught at gunn lakes. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

all those rays and that one sawshark were released. with the crabs, im not sure why they are in such dense numbers but i reckon its worth going out there soon just for a crabbing run and quick fish.

barbless hooks were used, and there is nothing against livebaiting, only as long as your livebait arent caught from the lake. who would bother in there with a lure as youre constantly getting stuck in weeds and you catch jackall on lures. ive sat there 8 hours at a time 3 days straight on lures with no bites. looked exactly like a stripey. tried multiple lures with multiple retrieves.

and you can quit being a smart#ss. i know how to fish . im just trying to be as kind as i can on this forum. and however did nothing to provoke you. what is this all over. i have literally supplied you with a landbased spot where you can catch sh#tloads of crabs. go out at low tide, set pots in the rocks along the beach, wait for the next low and thank me for your success.

the best time to fish those lakes is after lots of rain. thats the only time ive found when there very active and you can catch them below the overflow wall very easily.

sorry about that. i knew about catch and release but however did not know about no livebaiting as there are no signs that note against it there.
