Rapid Creek sometimes produces well. Park near the footbridge and walk up the path or drive if the council leave the bollards out. There's a few spots you can climb down to the water and have a flick for Barra while your there.

Re: Live bait
Nighcliff jetty either side of high tide for small herring (as long as it's relatively calm, if too much chop they wont be there)
Go down stairs and throw under the jetty, but beware the snags (eg shopping trolleys) at the bottom and barnacles on the sides, these will permanently own your net.
If the school is close enough you can just throw over the side.
You can also use a sabiki rig there and this is useful if the bait school is loitering just out of reach of your net near the rocks.
The local macks & queenies love them!

If you are after mullet, all over east point on low tide. If you can't see them immediately, just be patient. you will eventually see them come past. having good polarised glasses does help

Re: Live bait
yes as devil said is a excellent spot. look for a small sand patch or mudflat on the incoming or outgoing. on the outgoing chuck some livies with a running sinker rig off the shelves for some good sized barra
