Mr Tangels and I decided to hit Manton Dam today at dawn, a nice I'd never fished it, and to give the Punt another run. Water was flat as, and was like a dry season morning! Dragonflies aplenty, once the waves of mosquitoes disappeared like my Broncos chances of making the GF this year.. ha ha.
Using weedless lures, I was lucky enough to get into a 60cm Saratoga in the first 20 minutes, after that it was a hard slog, and I see why most people fish it at night, or only at dawn or dusk.
We lost a few Toga, but no sign of any Baz.
Did a couple of trawls, but unsure where to hit and at what depth lures. Was a great time tho! :)

Does it get onto the plane with 3.5 hp and 2 blokes or did you just troll between spots each time?

Good to see it on the water and getting a workout... Def more fun than mowing and chainsaw action for a decent 8hr bonfire like I was doing.

Did you see many barra on the sidescan matey? That is an OK area that not too many boats fish there and few big stumps are good spots up in that section too around 300m further on from the saratoga spot. Try near the fff mark on the GPS up the other end too. Decent soft plastics or bigger 20 plus killalures used to go alright on the old vids AlexJulius made back in the day. I have done a few miles with 6 inch nilsies trolling with the electric but I've found that they are a bit fragile when attached to big impoundment fish on 50lb braid peeling through the weeds and lillies if casting to the gaps or pockets in amongst them all...

Any area the ski boats use as a beach will be good start points for a few casts too if they are free as they clear a decent amount of the lillies and shallow layers of weeds out each weekend. Sunday arvos or into the night on either days on the weekends are the worst time to troll as the boats also rip up acres of the ribbon weed and you will only do a hundred metres before you have to clear it off your lures each time.

Manton doesn't always produce barramundi even for regulars. But it's always a pleasure to fish on and you'll get a lot more bites from saratoga if chasing them instead right on crack of dawn and there some monsters in there too.
