Build Up fishing and screen shots
So I actually don’t post up as much as I used to, preferring to chime in with one off posts (like this one) every now and then. I hope u all enjoy.
The build up has been going well for me despite my lack of time on the water up here. I make the most of my swing days off at work and more often than not I’m on the water while others are sleeping or just waking.
With all the recent hype about the mega and new live imaging I thought I’d share a few screen shots from my old school Gen1 and GEN2 HDS units im currently running. Nothing fancy, stock LSS tranny with 2D structure.
Generally I prefer to cast over trolling so more of late I’ve been targeting schooling fish in varying depths. I’m finding fish on both structure in 10-15ft of water and up in the shallows hiding out in sand ruts stalking bait.
Staying in touch with the fish and moving consistently to locate them on side scan has been the general technique and once located I’m tossing vibes and softies to get the eat.
Most fish are mid to high 90’s biggest so far this season has been 97.
Pics aren’t the best as I’m solo more and more these days unless I can convince the deckie (Daz12).
I’ve thrown in a few pics of fish for those on here that I know like to check out the background and piece the puzzle together but the real cool ones are the screenshots. Check it out.
Goes to show sometimes you don’t need to spend the money.....having said that, my big boat runs Carbon Units so I def won’t knock them back in a hurry either.
Cheers,
Richie

Awesome shots richieboy just curious I’m running hds5 gen 1 and hds9 gen 2 with lss2 tranny how do you manage to get such clear shots on side imaging I get decent shots on downscan but not as crisp images with side scan am mainly running it at 800khz for most of the work. But do you mess around with sensitivity and contrast much?

Thanks brother. Humbled by the appreciation. I see you've been nailing some quality fish.theodosius wrote:Awesome pics. Your posts and articles on flats fishing years ago are what transformed my techniques and catch rates, good to see you back!
Gibbsy, your set up is exactly the same as mine, Gen 1 HDS 7T and a Gen 2 HDS 12, with LSS2.Gibbsy wrote:Awesome shots richieboy just curious I’m running hds5 gen 1 and hds9 gen 2 with lss2 tranny how do you manage to get such clear shots on side imaging I get decent shots on downscan but not as crisp images with side scan am mainly running it at 800khz for most of the work. Ill run 800Khz all the time to maximise my return. Try turning noise rejection off and setting surface clarity on low. Then dial up and down sensitivity and contrast and see how it affects your picture. The softer the bottom, the darker the return, the harder the bottom the brighter the return. I'll always adjust these settings depending on the bottom i'm fishing and where the fish are holding in the column.
Zereks, the only ones I run mate. Its just individual preference.Flickin4em wrote:those zerek fish traps go alright that's for sure. I also run the samakis a fair bit too.

Re: Build Up fishing and screen shots
Awesome post. I also read richies flats article a while back and loved it, so thanks. I need to do something about my sunder situation, but cant afford much ATM. Can anybody make a suggestion about cheapest-suitable sounder setup (new or 2nd hand) to look for, to see the groups of fish like the sidescan pics? Thanks

Re: Build Up fishing and screen shots
As you can see you don't need the latest sounders to get good readings.
H Bird and L rance are constantly bringing out new models Live view and Mega scan which leaves heaps of older models up for grabs at good prices. Just look on G tree of F book there are plenty out there cheap.
Cheers
