Ranger uranium mine is in Kakadu on the East Alligator River. Is it being closed in a responsible manner that ensures the health of the river?

Here is an ECNT submission from July on the closure of Ranger uranium mine ... http://ecnt.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2 ... anavan.pdf

was out there a few weeks ago on our trip ,i dont think they can possibly close the mine down as jabiru is its life line ,even though the town is looking reqally shabby at the moment it would be a monumental task putting it back to the way it was .also talking to a pretty big bussiness man in darwin and he was saying that Ranger had found another huge vain out there .

It's the 3-deeps project and it's ready to roll more or less and has been since 2015.

I think it's all well played out smoke and mirrors so far to the reporting media and I believe it will continue well into the future although there are reports of the operating company wanting to go green! - in other words, remove themselves from the context and risk of such a resource that may possibly cost more in environmental infections that outweigh the return on investment.

Just saying:)

Pretty sure that anything that the mine built is supposed to be returned to natural state, including the town. That would be something to go and watch...

The town will keep mostly anything it wants and the rest will be up to the mine to get rid of.

Considering that most equipment needs decontaminating before leaving site it's inevitable that most machinery and infrastructure would be buried forever deep.

yes will be interesting if the power source goes .and they have to invest in solar or what ever at their cost .i just cant see this happening when they have a new vein to explore and keep the mine going .if it ever does jabiru will be one of those ghost towns you see on the tele in the mid west of USA.just tumble weeds rolling up the street
